Toilet Repair in Provo, UT

Provo is a renting town with a mixed-age housing stock: 60% rent, and 61% of homes predate 1990.

Short version

In Provo, 60% of occupied homes are rented. That usually puts the toilet on the landlord's side of the line, so a tenant's job is to report the fault rather than to find somebody to fix it. At 61% pre-1990, the housing gives no strong steer on flush volume, which makes the tank label worth a look.

Tank and Bowl is a referral service, not a contractor. We connect homeowners with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no work, we sell no fixtures, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

Provo is a renting town — 60% of households rent. This page is still worth reading, because describing the fault accurately is what gets it fixed, but the tenant page is the one that applies to most people here.

What the age of Provo’s housing suggests

Provo is a mixed-age town — 61% of its homes were built before 1990. That puts a pre-standard fixture somewhere around even odds before you look at anything.

Looking is easy, and it beats the average: most tanks carry a date on the underside of the lid.

What is actually wrong with it

Most calls are one of five things, and the useful first step is deciding which. Three of them — running, a weak flush and no flush at all — live inside the tank. The other two, a leak at the base and a rocking fixture, are underneath it and are related to each other.

Ask which part was tested before the fixture was blamed. On a running toilet that means the dye test; on a leak at the base it means whether the flange was looked at. A quote to reset a toilet that does not mention the flange has not established why the last seal failed.
