Why home ownership is the figure on every town page, and who publishes them.

Short version

Tank and Bowl is NXTA Flow’s toilet repair referral site. It fixes nothing and sells no fixtures. Its town pages carry home ownership rates because who is responsible for a toilet depends on whether the occupant owns the place.

Tank and Bowl is a referral service, not a contractor. We connect homeowners with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no work, we sell no fixtures, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

The source behind every figure

Every town page is built on two Census tables — B25003 for tenure and B25034 for the year the housing was built — from the American Community Survey 5-year estimates, 2023 release. Every figure about flush volumes, leaks and water use comes from EPA WaterSense. Both are named and linked on the pages that use them.

We publish no service life for a flapper, no typical repair price and no share of toilets that leak. Those numbers circulate widely and have no methodology behind them.

What our data cannot tell you

The Census dates the house, not the fixture. A home built in 1962 may be on its third toilet, and every page that uses the build year says so. What the figure supports is a statement about how likely an old fixture is in a town, never a claim about the one in your bathroom.

Credentials

Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. We do not vouch for anyone; each state page sets out who issues the license there and where to look it up.

If the dye test pointed at the flapper, that is a part, not a fixture.Worth saying on the call, because it changes what somebody arrives with. We connect you to a contractor covering your area and you are never charged. Toilets head this site, but any plumbing job is welcome.
