Toilet Repair in Ramsey, NJ

In Ramsey, 86% of the housing predates 1990 and 84% of households own their home. Old fixture, and nobody else to call about it.

Short version

Owner-occupiers hold 84% of the occupied homes in Ramsey. For most households there the toilet is theirs outright, so the repair can be arranged directly without a landlord, an agent or a lease in the way. Housing there is 86% pre-1990, so a pre-standard fixture using far more than 1.6 gallons a flush is a real possibility — though that dates the house, not the toilet.

Tank and Bowl is a referral service, not a contractor. We connect homeowners with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no work, we sell no fixtures, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

What the age of Ramsey’s housing suggests

86% of housing units in Ramsey were built before 1990, which is to say before the Energy Policy Act of 1992 set a 1.6 gallon maximum. EPA puts pre-standard fixtures at 3.5 to more than 5.0 gallons a flush.

That is about the house, not about your bathroom: a 1968 home may be on its third toilet. What the figure says is that in a town like this, an original fixture is a live possibility rather than a curiosity.

What is actually wrong with it

The fault list is short. A running tank and a weak flush are both usually parts inside the tank. A leak at the base is the one that damages the building, and a fixture that rocks is the one that causes it.

Ask them to name the fault before they name the price. “The toilet needs replacing” is not a diagnosis; “the flapper seat is pitted and will not hold a new flapper” is, and it happens to be a common one.
